Finding life’s meaning with a chronic and progressive neurodegenerative disorder like Parkinson’s disease requires being positive and staying strong. It helps to pave a hope-filled path as you walk through your own life-journey. To support your journey, here are some words worth living derived from quotes on hope, courage, journey, persistence, positivity, strength, adversity, mindfulness, and life. The paperback/eBook’s theme revolves around words of inspiration; consistent with the comment by Cassandra Clare that “We live and breathe words.” The students from my undergraduate course submitted quotes about these words, which provides the framework for the paperback/eBook. All proceeds from both the paperback and eBook will be donated to the National Parkinson Foundation to provide needed material related to Parkinson’s outreach/education.

A Parkinson Reading Companion Frank C Church PhD 9781520434667 Books Reviews
This book is a wonderful companion for both those who have Parkinson's Disease and its allies. I found the entire book to be filled with inspiration and create a sense of community among readers. Dr. Church did a fantastic job of collecting quotes around resilience, persistence, courage and hope - something that I feel we could all use a little wisdom on. ) I will keep this book close at hand for years to come.
"A Parkinson's Reading Companion" begins with a beautiful, hopeful and life affirming premise...that the diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, does not preclude a happy and fulfilling life. The author dedicates this work "To all people-with-Parkinson’s; may your life’s journey be happy and fulfilling."
Dr. Church, himself afflicted by this frustrating condition, presented his 2016 UNC biology class the opportunity to share public or personal inspirational quotes on subjects representative of a life well lived. These included characteristics such as hope, strength, courage and persistence in the face of adversity.
Through this challenge to his students, he acknowledges that all of us, physically well and not so well, are in need of heartfelt encouragement.
Obviously, not in denial of the adversity of life with Parkinson's, Dr. Church shares his experiences living in the context of physical disability. In Chapter Ten, " Words Worth Living," he offers an explicit description of one gradual but progressive effect of Parkinson's Disease, which those dealing with this devastating illness must know only too well.
"Having a disorder like Parkinson's is like walking on the ocean's shoreline where your feet sink a little into the sand as the wave moves you slightly by its impact; slowly evolving, subtly changing, mysteriously arriving."
Yet, in spite of the enormous life adjustments that Parkinson's Disease demands, this collection of inspirational quote after quote, reminds us all of the power of positivity.
Although this compilation of "words worth living" is presented to the PD population specifically, the wisdom mined through these thoughtful offerings of encouragement and support is all inclusive. Read this book. You will leave its pages inspired and challenged to live happily and fully...not necessarily because of your present circumstances... but because you refuse to be defined by them. "You are still you."
I find myself constantly picking up this book as a source for inspiration and motivation. The book has a large number of meaningful quotes and thoughts-- all dedicated to an exceptional cause.
